Weslake VS Lehi 2009

Everyone was so excited for this game. Both
Westlake and Lehi fans. The stand were filled. What a great start! The game ball was delivered by Helicopter. The class president and Mr. Openshaw were the two to deliver the game ball. We were ready to play some football.

The game began, what a battle it was. The score stayed at zero's for the whole first half. When the second half of the game started, our boys were ready to play. They came out strong. Playing really hard. The final score of the game was 21 to 3.

It was a really great season and so much fun to cheer on the boys and our first year of football. It will be so much fun to watch them in the years to come. They are only going to get better and win more games. It will be so fun to watch them dominate!

I want to send out a HUGE thank you to all the coaches and the great job they did with the boys. They are a really great group of men. They really worked hard with the boys not only on the field but off. So many life lessons were taught along with football skills. We really do appreciate all the they have done and hope to see all the coaches back next year.

To the booster club, thank you for all your hard work. You put in a lot of time to keep things going. Thank you again.

One last thank you to all the Parents and Fans that came out to support our Football team. It was always fun to see our stands full, even at the away games. We had to travel some distance for a few of the games, and we always had the stands full!! Hope to see you all out next year cheering on the boys!

The details for the Football banquet are being worked out. When we know all the details we will post them for you!

Westlake vs Wasatch

Westlake defeats the undefeated!

Final score 35-32. So many said no way..... our boys said all the way, and they proved it Thursday night!!! What a great game! The boys all came out really strong. They played hard. How fun to watch them win this game. They really needed it.

After the game the band was playing some music from their competition. The coaches had the whole team sit and listen to them play. He told them that the band comes to the games and they support you, so we as a team can support them. That was really cool of the coaches.

The boys are getting ready to play Timpanogos Wednesday night. The win against Wasatch really helped get them pumped up for the game.

The game is Wednesday night 7:00 p.m. at Timpanogos. We would love to see you all out supporting the team. Remember no school on Thursday!!!!!

JV and Sophomore games against Wasatch

Just had to make a quick note about the 2 games yesterday.
First JV played at 3:30. What a game. The boys really played hard, and really well. At a time we were ahead, then we fell behind.
The fourth quarter was amazing to watch. We needed two touchdowns to tie up the game. One really amazing run of the game, we kicked and on side. The ball bounced off of the opposing team, our guys retrieved the ball. After a few plays ran it in for a touchdown.
It was an exciting game all the way...... BUT....... we came down to seconds, the game was tied 28-28. We went into overtime. Each team started at the 20 yd. line to try and make a TD. Wasatch went first. They scored, then kicked for the field goal. the score was now 35-28.
Then came Westlakes turn. We scored, then went for the field goal. We missed the opportunity for the field goal. Final score 35-34. What an amazing game. The team really played a good game, and fought really hard.

Sophomores played a really great game. They were ready for a win. They looked like they were having so much playing the game. I really think the incentive the coaches put out there for the boys helped just a little;). It was fun to watch them play and to win their game!!! Final score was 34-14. Way to go boys!!!!!

Don't forget tonight's Varsity game against Wasatch. It is a home game, it starts at 7:00. Dress warm and come for some fun!!!!! See you there.

Westlake vs. Timpview

After Thursday nights game I had someone ask me how I was going to blog this game. Well after some thought on that, this is my response.

Our boys went out and played their game. They held their heads up through out the whole night. They played hard, Timpview played harder. That is how they are. Westlake played the defending champions for the last 3 years.

They may have lost the game, but in my book they are all winners. They really played a tough game, and many in new positions. The boys did what they were asked to do by their coaches.

I look forward for years to come, when our boys and the Westlake Thunder will be the team to watch out for.

The boys are looking forward to our last 3 games of the season. This coming Thursday we play Wasatch at home. The game begins at 7:00. Hope to see everyone there to cheer on the team.

Westlake vs. Orem 2009

Well....... not to sure what to say about this game. The boys really fought hard to come back. They almost did it. The final score was 42 Orem 35 Westlake. To ALL the coaches, as parents and spectators we are so grateful for all the time you put in to coaching our boys. Not only coaching but life lessons you are teaching them.

That brings me to Saturday morning. What a great opportunity for our boys to give back..... They were involved in the Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome. The boys had a really great morning. They interacted with the kids, played games with them and went on a 2 mile walk with them.

So many of the boys came home feeling really great about what they had the opportunity to do, and really had a great time. It was so wonderful to hear the boys talking about the kids they met, and the things that they did with them. All I kept hearing was how cute the kids were, and how much fun they had with them. We hope to see many more events that the boys are participating in as a team. How great to see the boys working together as a team off the field as much as on.

Westlake vs. Mountain View

Another Friday night under the lights! As always the boys started out of the locker room, pumped and ready to go. We all really missed "Thunderstruck" being played as they came on to the field. We were all really excited to see how this game would be played.

The whole first half of the game was hard fought. The boys worked really hard to get those first 14 points on the board. It really was fun to watch.

The boys played their hearts out and ended up winning the game 28-26. A little close for comfort, but they did it!!

Looking forward to playing Orem on their field, Friday September 25 at 7:00 p.m.. Hope to see everyone there!!!

Westlake vs. Provo September 11, 2009 Homecoming

Where were you on the morning of September 11, 2001. This is how the evening started, in thought. The presentation of the flag was by the Marines this night, and the National Anthem was performed by our own Westlake choir. They did a great job.

Not long after the beginning of the festivities, the boys came out onto the field. They were ready to play. It is such a sight to see them all walking out of the locker room united.

The stands were filled to capacity again this week. We had such a variety of people there. Students dressed in togas, faces painted, and even whole bodies painted light blue and dark blue. The fans are so great to come out and support the boys.

Kick off, the game was so very close between the two teams. By half time the score was 7 Provo 3 Westlake. The second half of the game there were more touchdowns for both teams. It was a very intense game to watch. I think the best part was the last 8 seconds of the game. I really thought the boys were going to pull it out. In the end we lost 23-28.

Next weeks game is against Mountain View. The game starts at 7:00 p.m., it is a home game. Hope to see everyone there!

Westlake vs. Payson

Friday September 4, 2009: First home game for Westlake Thunder High School. What a turn out. The place was packed! Everyone was so excited for the high school game!! The marching band was ready to go, and they played really well! Some military men from Camp Williams presented the American flag at the game. The national anthem performance was AMAZING...all I can say is WOW!!!!

Then it started. The best song, and unofficial theme song of the Westlake; "Thunderstruck". The boys started out of the locker room and the crowd went wild! Everyone was on their feet, cheering for the boys. They looked so good in their light blue jerseys! The color made SUCH a statement!

It was a really great game, and most importantly, the boys played their hearts out. We had a few injuries, but hoping nothing too serious. It was a really close game the whole night, and pretty intense to watch, but in the end we lost the game 27-34.

What a sight to see with the whole community coming together and cheering on our youth! The boys are looking forward to next Friday night's Homecoming Game. Hope to see you all there!!!

On Thursday the Sophomore and J.V. boys played Payson, and both teams won their games. They were fun to watch!

Scrimmage and Luau

The scrimmage went great today! The boys all came out and had a blast!! They were able to run the plays they have been learning all week at camp, and they did pretty good!

The stands were filled up quite a bit, with families and friends. An estimated 700 people showed up to support the team!! What a great way to start things off!!

There was a Luau following the scrimmage, and it went so well. A LOT more people showed up than was expected, but all in all it turned out well.

The food was good, and the entertainment was great!! It was so neat to see a bit of the heritage from the polynesian culture.

They even had the coaches come up and shake their hips!! Who knew Coach Walker could move like that?!

The luau went great! Thanks to everyone who came out to support this evening!!

Have a great week off, and we will see you boys @ 6:00 AM on Monday, July 20th!!

Last day at Camp Williams

Today was the last day of camp, and it was awesome!! These boys have come together, set goals, and are helping each other. It is so amazing to see these boys do this!!!

Today was a tough practice, but it was obvious the boys loved it. It is so great to see these boys really excited about football, and watching them work towards what the want so badly - to win state!!! They are so determined to reach that goal, and it's wonderful to see them with such a positive attitude!

Channel 2 news came to Camp Williams to interview Coach Walker, and to get some clips of the boys being boys! They were so excited that the news people were there JUST for them!!

After lunch, one of the boys had a birthday, so we celebrated it with a birthday hat and cake.

After the afternoon practice, the boys packed up all their stuff, cleaned the barracks, and bathrooms, and got to go sleep in their own beds!!

We are all REALLY excited for the scrimmage tomorrow, and the boys can't wait to show off what they have learned! Hope to see you all there!

Day 3 of Football Camp

Today, the boys had a BLAST at camp!! It was a little bit of an easier day for them, and they let loose and had a LOT of fun!! Some of the boys went over to the Camp Williams pool and took a swim for a dollar, and others just hung out, and got to know each other a lot better!

Later on the boys practiced for a while, but not in full pads. The coaches let the boys relax a little bit today, as tomorrow will be a tough practice.

The boys were in their designated groups and had to come up with a skit to perform in front of everyone else. The boys were assigned to do a spoof on the coaches that work with them. It was a hoot to watch, and fun to see the boys coming closer together!!

After the skits were over, the coaches did a skit, and then it opened up to whoever wanted to do impersonations. So fun to watch everyone poke fun at each other!!

After this, a few of the polynesian boys came forward to teach the team the Haka, and more importantly the meaning behind it. They told the team that it was a serious dance, and that respect was to be shown. The team went outside under the streetlights, and all took off their shirts, as the Maori Haka dancers do, and all started learning it.

After working on the Haka, the boys gathered around to talk as a team, and a few boys stood up to say that they felt this was a good team, and that they could already feel how much closer they had grown to each other. It was wonderful to see how much these boys care about each other!!

Afterwards, they all went in for a snack, which lasted maybe 2 minutes, and then the boys started to help clean up!

It was a great day, and the boys are excited for tomorrow and for the scrimmage on Saturday!!

PICKING YOUR BOYS UP!!!

We were just notified that parents will need to pick up their boys from CAMP WILLIAMS, Friday at 4:00 pm. To get into Camp Williams, you will need your identification. Thanks everyone!!

Day 2 at Football Camp

Today was the second day at football camp, and the boys are LOVING it!! The boys started the day with full contact practice, and finished it up with a great team meeting, learning new things!!

There are not as many pictures today, because I was in the kitchen feeding all these hungry boys! They are blast to be around, and their positive attitudes rub off on others. I have never heard so many "Thank You's" from teenage boys, and hugs for their moms in the kitchen!! It was wonderful!! These boys are AWESOME!!!

Tomorrow should be great, and there will be more pictures from their activities!!

Thank you so much to all the volunteers that are so willing to give there time and talents to these boys.

First day of Football Camp

Today was the first day of football camp!!! All the boys were so excited to go, and learn all sorts of new things! The boys are sleeping in the military barracks, at Camp Williams, who so graciously let the boys stay there at no cost to us.

The players were able to go to the training obstacle courses at Camp Williams to build teamwork skills. They had to work really hard, both physically and mentally, to get everyone from one side to the other. Of course, the boys knew how to have fun with the activity!

The team then returned to the military base WIPED OUT, for a 3 hour break, including dinner, (and naps!) before suiting up for their first full contact practice. The team was tired, but worked very hard on the drills. I am sure they are all snoring in their beds now!!!
